EMV Technology FAQ & Quick Reference

What is EMV Tag 9F66 (Terminal Transaction Qualifiers - TTQ)?

The EMV tag 9F66 (TTQ) is a critical 4-byte configuration parameter used in contactless payment transactions (specifically Visa payWave). It is sent by the reader to the card during the application Select command to convey reader capabilities such as offline data authentication (ODA) support, MSD, qVSDC, and PIN requirement flags.

What is the purpose of Terminal Transaction Qualifiers (TTQ) in EMV?

The TTQ guides the terminal and card on how to execute the transaction path. Byte 1 defines credit/debit support and online capability flags. Byte 2 sets cardholder verification method (CVM) support such as signature or PIN. Byte 3 determines offline processing preferences or whether the reader forces online processing.
