A terminal or host built only against the older 6-digit assumption simply won't look at 9F0C at all, which isn't a bug in the ordinary sense but does mean it can't distinguish issuers or products that only the extended identifier actually separates - a gap that surfaces as issuer/product misclassification in reporting or routing, not as a hard transaction failure.
